Da Vinci Days Seeks Wheel Art for "CycleDelic" Community Exhibit

Corvallis, Ore., April 20, 2007 — Da Vinci Days is rolling out an invitation encouraging area "art pedalers" to go CycleDelic for the festival's 2007 Community Art Project.

Festival organizers, in conjunction with ArtCentric, will celebrate the 150th anniversary of bike-friendly Corvallis by displaying 150 locally crafted art bikes and other whimsical wheeled wonders in a colorful outdoor display during the 19th annual da Vinci Days.

Maia Fischler, da Vinci Days Art Committee member, said the art bikes project is free and open to anyone who is "wheely inspired."

"Just grab an old bike, trike, or anything that uses (or resembles) a wheel," said Fischler. "Then get creative with paint, glue, sequins, found objects, a welding torch—whatever you need to make wheel art. This is your chance to recreate the wheel!"

A limited number of old bikes and bike parts (frames, gears, etc.) will be made available by ArtCentric to the wheely deprived.

Da Vinci Days Executive Director Brenda VanDevelder said the art bikes exhibit will be a perfect fit with this year's festival theme of Motion & Commotion. She expects CycleDelic will attract plenty of entries, as well as a large and appreciative audience during the festival's July 20-22 run.

"The Community Art Project is one of the most popular aspects of the festival," VanDevelder said. "Typically, more than 100 individuals and organizations get creative and install their projects along Madison Avenue between Central Park and the main festival site on the OSU lower campus."

Would-be wheel artists will be asked to register with ArtCentric by July 16th to display their creations. Registration is free and can be done in-person, by phone, or by e-mail.

To register, obtain a bike or bike parts, or get more information about the Community Art Project, visit ArtCentric at 700 SW Madison, call them at 754-1551, or send an e-mail to joni@artcentric.com.
