Harmony & Order: Art & the Sciences
Do you think of art and science as two unrelated disciplines? Hans Queisser, renowned physicist, author, and mentor to Nobel Prize laureates, will challenge this common belief, showing just how closely linked these two worlds really are.

Travel back to antiquity to understand why Greek philosophers considered art and science as almost the same thing. Learn how mathematics is an integral component in the harmony of not only music, but architecture. See how often the visual arts are used to represent extremely abstract concepts and how new scientific theories are frequently judged by their “beauty.” Find surprising similarities between integrated circuits and Mondrian paintings. Discover the concept of space-time in moving images such as filmmaking, a timely topic in this 100th anniversary year celebrating Einstein’s remarkable contributions to modern physics.

Join us for this engaging speaker. Discover that art and science are more connected than you thought!  If your curiosity can’t wait until July, explore these intriguing questions on your own:

Painting by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian Do Mondrian’s paintings really look like integrated circuits?
Murano glass vase Why is Hans Queisser interested in the art and science of Murano glass making?
Physicist, Albert Einstein What’s the fuss about Albert Einstein in 2005?

To those in the know, Hans Queisser is one of the early researchers in the fundamental work that sparked the Silicon Valley.  Among his lesser known credentials is first-hand knowledge of Oregon strawberry picking! For more on our 2005 Keynote Speaker, who is as fascinated with art as he is with physics, check out these info tidbits.

2000 Interview

Visit Channel NewsAsia International for an interview where Hans Queisser shares his thoughts on the Silicon Valley (past, present, and future), being a scientist and father, and the modern world of the microchip.
