Some of the questions we hear and
answers you’d like to get:
When is da Vinci Days?
The Festival happens every year on the third weekend in July.
Mark your calendars for July 20-22, 2007! In the meantime, look out for special events during the year.
What’s the reason for “da Vinci” in your name?
Back in 1987, a group of community-spirited citizens decided to
organize a festival that typified the unique features of
Corvallis—our vibrant arts community, University town
benefits, and high-tech industries. So it was only fitting that
we name it in honor of Leonardo, the quintessential
Renaissance
Man who was himself an artist, scientist, and inventor.
Where is da Vinci Days held?
Most events are located on the Oregon State University campus.
The Festival’s Main Gate is at Madison Avenue & 11th Street.
We’re from out of town. Where can we stay?
If you don’t have family or friends here in Corvallis, there are
several options: camping facilities at
Benton County Fairgrounds, lovely B&Bs, and local motels/hotels.
Whatever your choice, getting around town is easy by free
Festival shuttle and bus service or bicycling. There's also free parking in lots on the Oregon State University campus.
Why are there so many events at the same time?
Yes, we do fit a lot into three days. We try to stagger event
schedules whenever possible.
Who goes to the Festival?
Our demographic data say we attract just about everybody—families, seniors, boomers, Gen-Xers, Gen-Yers, et al. We’d like
to think that the Festival caters to all ages and all interests.
What’s the goal of da Vinci Days?
Our goal is summer fun mixed with music, artistic expression,
and opportunities for all ages to learn about how innovative
technology and scientific advances influence our daily lives.
How can I get involved as a volunteer?
At the heart of da Vinci Days is our legion of volunteers. While
some of the technical areas require specific skills, there is a
place for everyone in our
organization. Sign up today! We'll find just the right job for you.
More FAQs
What is the Festival?
We are a weekend summer Festival that features competitions to
watch or join, art to admire or to do, music to hear or make,
hands-on activities that teach in a fun sort of way, movies to
watch, speakers who inspire, and nerdy stuff for now and the
future.
A Festival for all?
The Festival is designed with everyone in mind. There are
activities and events offered with families and
children in
mind. Others are for teenagers and still others for adults. Many
are for all ages.
Keynote speaker?
This year, Nobel-prize winning physicist and Corvallis native Carl Wieman will bring quantum mechanics to the Festival keynote podium.
In 2006, audiences got an inside view of the space station through the eyes of NASA astronaut and OSU alum Don Pettit.
In 2005, Hans Queisser opened the common ground between art and science. A man behind the scenes, Dr. Queisser was a key player in the Silicon Valley revolution.
Film Festival in Corvallis?
Each year, over 6,000 people enjoy the big screen in the
air-conditioned comfort of LaSells Stewart Center. We specialize in feature films, shorts, and documentaries by independent, film school, and young (K-12)
filmmakers. We think that's pretty cool!
Children's Village moved?
To consolidate resources, we relocated the
Children’s
Village to the OSU Lower Campus. Now more integrated into the
Festival, we think it works better for children and their
parents. Check it out! It’s bigger and better!
Kinetic Sculptures?
Yes sculptures that race! Think of them as art-on-wheels (or, on segmented, insect legs), human-powered and environmentally friendly!
The Trebuchet is no more?
Yes. As much as people loved watching old computers fly through
the air, we ended this dramatic event due to insurance liability
issues and irksome mechanical problems.
